Limitations: Findings need to be interpreted with caution as quantitative syntheses were not possible because of study heterogeneity. Adolescents (N = 508; 14.1 ± 0.5 years; 49.6% female) completed measures of global self-esteem, subjective well-being, and hypothesized mediators (i.e., perceived fitness, resistance training self-efficacy, and autonomous motivation) at baseline (April-June, 2015) and post-intervention (October-December). The school-based physical activity program was delivered by teachers over 10-weeks via Physical Education, co-curricular school sport, or an elective subject known as Physical Activity and Sport Studies, and involved once-weekly fitness sessions and additional lunch-time sessions. Intervention effects and moderator analyses were tested using multi-level linear regression analyses with interaction terms. Multi-level mediation analyses were used to explore potential mediators of changes in well-being outcomes. Results: Intervention effects for self-esteem (ß = 0.05, p =.194) and wellbeing (ß = 0.03, p =.509) were not statistically significant. Moderator analyses showed effects for self-esteem were greater for the overweight/obese subgroup (p =.069 for interaction), and resistance training self-efficacy was a significant mediator of changes in self-esteem (product-of-coefficients [AB] = 0.021, SE = 0.010, 95% CIs = 0.002 to 0.040). No other significant indirect effects were observed. Conclusion: Overall, Resistance Training for Teens did not improve adolescents' self-esteem or subjective well-being. However, our mediation findings lend support to resistance training self-efficacy as a mechanism explaining the positive effect of resistance training on self-esteem.]]> Tue 01 Sep 2020 14:18:41 AEST ]]> Youthfulness and immaterial labour in the new economy https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:33385 Tue 01 Dec 2020 15:40:01 AEDT ]]> Class and the post-Fordist work ethic: subjects of passion and subjects of achievement in the work society https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:37455 Tue 01 Dec 2020 15:32:08 AEDT ]]> Gender, sexuality, and risk in the practice of affective labour for young women in bar work https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:37453 Tue 01 Dec 2020 15:27:08 AEDT ]]> How youth become workers: identity, inequality and the post-Fordist self https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:37452 Tue 01 Dec 2020 15:21:43 AEDT ]]> The formation of young workers: the cultivation of the self as a subject of value to the contemporary labour force https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:37451 Tue 01 Dec 2020 15:16:22 AEDT ]]> Cycling power profile characteristics of national-level junior triathletes https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:37102 Thu 20 Aug 2020 12:10:20 AEST ]]> The #chatsafe project. It explores the key ways in which the ideal body is currently achieved, via muscularising practices, slimming regimes and cosmetic procedures. Coffey investigates the concept of ‘health’ and how it is inextricably linked both to the bodily performance of gender ideals and an increased public emphasis on individual management and responsibility in the pursuit of a ‘healthy’ body. This book’s conceptual framework places it at the forefront of theoretical work concerning bodies, affect and images, particularly in its development of Deleuzian research. Increases in lower body strength were large in the LP group (ES: 1.64) and very large in the DUP group (ES: 2.33). Upper body strength changes were small in both groups (LP, ES: 0.57; DUP, ES: 0.31). Conclusions: Twelve weeks of LP or DUP resistance training are both effective at increasing maximal lower and upper body strength in adolescent rugby athletes. Additionally, twice weekly frequency of resistance training in adolescent rugby athletes with greater than 6-months resistance training experience is sufficient to elicit substantial increases in maximal strength.]]> Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:12:10 AEDT ]]> Bodies: corporeality and embodiment in childhood and youth studies https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:21884 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:11:14 AEDT ]]> Youth and political economy: towards a Bourdieusian approach https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:24049 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:09:36 AEDT ]]> Exploring anti-tobacco messages from an experiential arts activity with Aboriginal youth in an Australian high-school setting https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:30514 Mon 23 Sep 2019 10:55:41 AEST ]]> Comparability and feasibility of wrist- and hip-worn accelerometers in free-living adolescents https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:32763 Mon 23 Jul 2018 12:49:18 AEST ]]> Youth and spatiality: towards interdisciplinarity in youth studies (editorial) https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:34170 Young, 25(3), pp. 209-218.]]> Mon 18 Feb 2019 13:57:00 AEDT ]]> Gendered expectations of the biographical and social future: young adults' approaches to short and long-term thinking https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:40288 Mon 11 Jul 2022 11:39:18 AEST ]]> Chronotopes of youth https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:31868 Mon 09 Apr 2018 13:24:07 AEST ]]> FYI ...Virtual space has a context: toward an alternative frame for understanding cyberbullying https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:22919 Mon 09 Apr 2018 09:23:39 AEST ]]> The association between multiple prior concussions, cognitive test scores, and symptom reporting in youth rugby league players https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:45885 Mon 07 Nov 2022 16:30:20 AEDT ]]> From Life-course Expectations to Societal Concerns: Seeking Young Adults' Perspectives on Generational Narratives https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:45864 Mon 07 Nov 2022 15:54:56 AEDT ]]> The social context of youth mental health https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:33478 Mon 05 Nov 2018 10:49:42 AEDT ]]> Results from Australia's 2018 report card on physical activity for children and youth https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:35424 Mon 05 Aug 2019 12:59:29 AEST ]]> Luminosity 2017: exploring benefits of a youth conference on well-being https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:35123 Fri 21 Jun 2019 18:07:55 AEST ]]> Spaces of youth: work, citizenship and culture in a global context https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:42145 Fri 19 Aug 2022 08:47:23 AEST ]]> Case management in youth desistance: a governmentality approach https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:35615 Fri 13 Sep 2019 16:16:47 AEST ]]>
